Amsterdam “intelligent lockdown”
At the beginning of 2020, the whole world was confronted with the COVID virus, which locked down country after country. A situation that most of us, who (fortunately) do not know war, have never experienced in our lives. In mid-March, the Dutch government announced an 'intelligent lockdown'. Keeping a distance of one and a half meters is mandatory and everyone is called upon to work from home as much as possible and to stay at home if they have complaints. The population starts hoarding toilet paper. Major events such as sports competitions and festivals are cancelled. Hospitality, museums, schools and childcare close their doors. During the first days in Amsterdam, daily life on the streets comes to a standstill. Police guard the city. billboards call for tolerance and restaurants are looking for new turnover and starting a takeaway service for meals that can be prepared at home. In total, the measures surrounding this pandemic lasted about 2 years, with varying degrees of severity. Images that we will never forget
