Theyyam - Where humans become Gods
In North Kerala, Theyyam is more than a dance—it’s a sacred ritual where performers transform into gods. With bold face paint, towering headpieces, and trance-like movements, they bless people, heal the sick, and bring prosperity.
This tradition is older than Hinduism and deeply tied to local legends and ancestor worship. There are over 300 different deities, each with a unique story.
Some Theyyam rituals even include animal sacrifices, like chickens, to honor the spirits.
